Canada

I almost forgot: Happy Birthday, Canada. It’s Dominion Day.

Love your National Anthem. If you ever want to swap it for a Zamboni-load of hockey sticks, let ME know.

I think it’s funny how we both started off as British colonies and ended up with anniversaries so close together.

Nobody could have a better neighbor, eh.

Visions of Humanity has released its Global Peace Index, ranking 140 nations in terms of their relative peacefulness.

  • Bad news: We’re #97.
  • Worse news: That’s +7 from last year (the lower the number, the more peaceful you are)
  • Good news: I don’t live in Sudan (#138), Somalia (#139) or Iraq (#140).
  • Even better news: Our neighbor Canada (#11) is very peaceful and they’re ripe for the pickin’.

The index’s methodology is discussed here.

Air CanadaI’m heading to the airport in a couple of hours to fly to Nashville to hook up with the family for Thanksgiving at my in-laws in Fairdealing, Kentucky. The Delaware Valley is supposed to get some light snow tonight, so I think I’m getting out of here just in time. Snow is much less festive during the holidays when you actually have to travel in it.

I also heard on the news last night that I’ll be sharing the Philadelphia International Airport with 100,000 other holiday travelers. I’m willing to bet that I’m the only one going to Fairdealing.

I’ve got the strangest plane ticket that I’ve ever seen in my life: I’m flying Air Wisconsin (a subsidiary of Air Canada) from Philadelphia to Nashville.

My travel agent must be getting kick-backs from the Great White North.

At least that’s what my itinerary says. If my next blog is from Calgary or Milwaukee, you’ll know I’ve messed up.

I hope they play “O, Canada” before we take off. I love that song.
