I’m a Believer

As far as I’m concerned, the only advantage to driving across flat, open spaces like Oklahoma is getting better radio reception on AM 720 WGN Chicago. Pat Hughes and Ron Santo faded in and out most of the evening but I got to hear the most important parts of the Cubs-Reds game, namely the [...]

Face the Issues Class

Tomorrow morning, I’ll be teaching the College Church of Christ’s “Face the Issues” class on the Harding University campus. My topic is “Who Should I Vote For?”
Like I would know.
I’ve taught this class before. They’re nice people.
I’ll post my PowerPoint notes from the lesson on Monday morning for comments. If you’re in [...]

Quiz Bowling Oklahoma

I’m in Norman, Oklahoma today for our first Quiz Bowl tournament of the semester. This is the Harding University Academic team’s second visit to OU – last year we finished in second place.
We brought two teams – one filled with seniors and another stacked with freshmen. So, it will be a learning experience for at [...]

This Week’s Sign of the Impending Apocalypse (#99)

A North Carolina man recently discovered a human leg inside his meat smoker.
The smoker was purchased at public auction auction and the leg was discovered when the new owner opened the smoker and found what the thought was a piece of driftwood wrapped in paper. When he unwrapped it, he found a human [...]

Seven years of college, two academic degrees, twenty years of teaching and promotion to full professor and I have finally arrived.

As some of you may know, President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, of Republic of Zambia spoke at Harding last night as part of the the American Studies [...]

Vox Bloguli

I like reading other blogs when I’m not managing my own.
On Fridays, I post a review of the stories that I really liked:

Pax Fellowship - Truth Has Nothing to Fear
Christianity Today - Our Teachable Moment
Cubs.com — Little Cubs get their ‘Field of Dreams’

Slow Moderation Day

I’m going to be driving back and forth today between Searcy and the Little Rock airport all day. Expect the moderation to be a little skippy until dinner time.
I’ll be working for Harding and finally putting my PhD in international relations to good use.
And I’m wearing a suit and tie.
Film at 11:00.

Thursday SEC Smackdown

Almost live, from the Golden Globe Casino in Searcy, Arkansas, it’s your weekly gratuitous SEC football post.
After beating the point-spread against arch-rival OPEN DATE last weekend, my Vanderbilt Commodores are holding at 2-1, 1-1 and are currently a 20 1/2-point favorite against the Eastern Michigan “Eastern Eagles”.
Looks like your best game this weekend will be [...]

The White County Sheriff’s Log

White County is Arkansas’ 31st county and a really swell place to live. Unfortunately, a few of our citizens occasionally have to make a police report. These are their stories.
Reports filed with the White County Sheriff’s Department from August 28-29, 2007 include the following:

Terroristic threatening; a woman reported she got into an argument with a [...]
