#500

Congratulations to Kyle Symanowitz for being the 500th registered user at my Lame-o Weblog.
Kyle wins a free coffee of his choice the next time I see him in the student center.
For the record, #501 was WSMorris, who gets nothing other than the warm feeling that comes after making your first comment.

Rick Atchley in Searcy

Rick Atchley from the Richland Hills Church of Christ was in town this weekend at the Downtown Church of Christ for a “weekend of encouragement”.
I caught two services at Downtown on Sunday morning at 11:00 and the communion service at 8:30 on Sunday night. I think I would have gone even if Rick’s visit [...]

A Note on Pronunciation

After twenty years of mangling the last names of my students on the first day of class, I am probably not the best person to be giving lectures on this kind of thing but I’m going to do it any way.
Attention telemarketers and insurance company representatives:
There is only one way that any intelligent person can [...]

Sometimes, It Is Just a Game

Sympathies and condolences to my friends in Cardinal Nation.
St. Louis Cardinal’s relief pitcher, Josh Hancock, was tragically killed in a car accident early this morning in St. Louis.
Hancock had pitched three innings in the Cardinals-Cubs game in St. Louis on Saturday. He obviously leaves behind many friends and family who mourn his passing.
Fellow Cardinals’ players [...]

This Week’s Sign of the Impending Apocalypse (#77)

A Melbourne, Florida doctor has been arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, destruction of evidence, disorderly conduct and battery.
Under normal circumstances, I’m sure that this would be just another Saturday night in Melbourne. But in this case, the individual in question was dressed as the comic book icon Captain America.
It’s been a rough [...]

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

Today is Alan’s last day of high school.
As you can guess, there’s been a lot of water under the bridge since Al’s first day of school in August, 1994. Tish and I are still trying to remember who those two other people in the picture are.
Most parents are apprehensive on their child’s first day [...]

Caption This Friday

Some days, you find yourself just phoning it in.
This is my second go-round with Ronald McDonald for “Caption This”.
I hope you don’t mind — I just think there’s something really funny about clowns in police custody.
Have a great weekend. I’m going trout fishing in the morning.
Look out, trout.

Viva Vicente

If I had called the ASI office at Harding last year and suggested that they should invite a pro-immigration, UN-supporting, anti-Iraq War globalist to speak on campus, I think the response would have been: “We’ll get back to you on that one, Elrod…”
It wouldn’t have mattered because I got to hear him tonight anyway.
Former President [...]

The Searcy Police White County Sheriff’s Log

If you stopped by today to read the weekly Searcy Police Log, I’m sorry to disappoint you.
The Daily Citizen threw me a curve this week by publishing the White County Sheriff’s Log in lieu of the Searcy Police Log.

Bear with ME; I’ll get to the bottom of this by the end of the week…
White [...]
