This Week’s Sign of the Impending Apocalypse (#73)

The oversight was discovered in the shower room of the Hamilton County jail.

Caption This Friday
Well, like Karl Marx used to say, “Gott sei dank, heute ist freitag.”
Or something like that — I think I read it in one of his books but he may have been quoting Hegel.
My weekend is going to be filled with reading questions at a high school quiz bowl tournament on campus tomorrow and a [...]

Vox Bloguli
A weekly round-up of what’s happening on a few of the other blogs I read:
On Growing Closer: The Jogger (parental guidance suggested).
Talking Points Memo: If you had a friend like President Bush, you would consider an intervention.
This Modern World: Demonstrates what that intervention would look like.
Slate.com: The President’s favorite historian. I can see why.

The Searcy Police Log
Searcy, Arkansas is a town where “thousands live like millions wish they could.” Unfortunately, a few of our citizens occasionally have to make a police report. These are their stories.
Reports filed with the Searcy Police Department from March 11-12, 2007 include the following:

Starting World War III: It’s More Difficult Than You Think
As some of you know, I spent a lot of time flying around in a Navy P-3C Orion from 1977-1980.
My job was to look for Soviet submarines and (IMHO) I was pretty good at it. If you slept well during those years, you can thank me. Actually, you’ve already thanked me for it [...]

Kudos to Brett Keller
Brett Keller, one of my favorite students here at Harding University and a frequent commenter on this blog, has been named a 2007 Truman Scholar.
Each year, sixty-five Truman scholars are selected from among 585 candidates nominated by 280 colleges and universities. Typically, selection panels elect one Scholar from each state and one at-large Scholar [...]

Democrats Hate America
Exhibit A…
FoxNews reminds their viewers, who probably represent the last 30% of Americans who believe that the civil war in Iraq is worth more American blood, that Democrats like to legislate defeat.
Patriotism may be the last refuge of a scoundrel but FoxNews is as close second-to-last.
“We report, you… ah, never mind…”

The Myth of Redemptive Violence (Part II)
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Paul to the Romans 12:2)
Christ calls us to be different – to transform ourselves [...]

Swiftboat This
By a 218-212 vote on Friday, the House of Representives passed the U.S. Troops Readiness, Veterans’ Health and Iraq Accountability Act, which calls for the redeployment of US troops from Iraq by September 1, 2008.
The bill ties troop withdrawal provisions to more than $100 billion in emergency funds for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, [...]
